July 9th-July17th 2010: Here’s the rundown.

Friday, July 9th: It begins! Potluck style party coupled with a discussion about prisons, and women in prison.
7:00pm at the M-11 Social Center

Bring a dish, and share food to celebrate the first event of the week. No one is turned away for not having a dish.

Saturday, July 10th: Noise demonstration at the Washington Women’s Correction Center.
There will be a meet up for carpool at
2:00pm at the Hilltop Safeway
or meet us there at
3:00pm  9601 Bujacich Rd. NW Gig Harbor, WA.

Sunday, July 11th: Seattle based group, For Crying Out Loud will be giving a presentation on forms of community accountability processes regarding rape and sexual assault, without needing to call the police. 4:00pm The M-11 1212 S. 11th Street Suite 24

Monday July 12th: Short film : Transgender Basics – Gender Identity Project (GIP)
Transgender Basics is a 20 minute educational film on the concepts of gender and transgender people. Two providers from the Center’s Gender Identity Project (GIP) discuss basic concepts of gender, sexual orientation, identity and gender roles. Three transgender community members share their personal experiences of being trans and genderqueer.
Discussion about Gender and Sexuality. Normative gender values and how we are ALL affected.
Documentary (if enough people want to see it): Middle Sexes (run time: about 1 hour).
“Examines the diversity of human sexual and gender variance around the globe,
with commentary by scientific experts and first-hand accounts of
people who do not conform to a simple male/female binary.”

Tuesday, July 13th: A session of demystifying the communication of sexual consent, STDs and STIs.

Wednesday, July 14th: Movie Night! Popcorn! Featured Film: Homotopia.
“Set sometime in the future-present Homotopia chronicles a group of radical queer’s dedicated to exposing the trouble with gay marriage, dismantling the State, undoing Empire, while looking totally fierce. Race, gender, ability and desire are reworked through an anti-colonial take of queer struggle creating a visual rhythm of melancholic utopianism that knows there may be no future but still hopes today is not their last.”

Thursday, July 15th:
Beyond Feminism: an explanation of the name. A session posing questions about power dynamics as a whole and dialogue surrounding identity politics. There is a root in how patriarchy, and capitalism effects us all and it manifests itself in our daily lives.

Friday, July 16th:
Introduction to Self-defense. Being able to physically defend yourself is so important. Preparing yourself internally is vital to be willing to take the next step in physical confrontations. We will be showing basic techniques and discussing our incentives in training our bodies as a whole.
5:00pm at People’s Park on S. 9th Street and MLK Way.


Saturday, July 17th (two events): A day of workshops and discussions about bringing midwifery and doulas back into childbirth, and general health practices for women and men.
